Volcano is the island of "Hephaestus" god of fire, or so was considered, at least in ancient times, for its volcanic activity, still manifested by fumaroles and hot springs. It is the island most south of the archipelago and closest to Sicily. It is divided from Lipari island by the Bocche di Vulcano, a strait about a kilometre and a half long.
Vulcano is full of spectacular scenery, with strong contrasts between the blue of the sky and his land barren, jagged coastline and seabed rich in flora and fauna. The island has two ports, the Port of Levante and the Port of Ponente, separated by "Vulcanello".

The alternated eruptions over the centuries have left valuable testimonials, like the two beaches of Porto Levante and Porto di Ponente, one colored sand and black and a fine the other, the obsidian flows of 1739, the hot springs near Porto Levante where tourists get lost in a bath long day and night, sometimes getting covered in the natural mud, very beneficial for treating rheumatism, arthritis, skin and many other treatments.
