Southern Italy - Verbicaro, set in the calabrian hinterland

With origins that date back to the roman "Apustrum", Verbicaro lies, surrounded by Pine woods, Beech and Oaks, in the Calabrian Hinterland, as one of the towns of the Natural Park "Parco del Pollino". Various excursions begin here, to visit the wonders of this natural park like the "Cozzo del Pellegrino", at 2000 metres in height...but for who

Southern Italy - Verbicaro, ideal for a relaxed holiday, offers great views and sceneries

prefers to take a seat and admire nature's beauties, just sit and relax at the towns piazza where you can have a glance of a breathtaking view of these heights and try to spot in the distance the blue of the Tyrrhenian sea.

Verbicaro's historical centre still shows shapes and forms of medieval architecture, like the Palazzo Feudale, while the church "Madonna delle Nevi" preserves frescoes, possibly of the Byzantine era, of Saints and Virgin Mary on a throne, as well

Southern Italy - Verbicaro, produces a local DOC Wine by it's same name

as a 17th century small statue of Mary and Child dressed in Spanish Costumes. The church also houses sacred objects, and wooden statues that date back to the 17th and 18th century.

Famous around the world is Verbicaro's D.O.C. Wine. Made out of the finest grapes of these heights this wine was already appreciated in the Roman era. Unfortunately today the production of the Wine that takes the same name of this town, who's inhabitants are just under 4000, could be interrupted. However bottles of this wine can be found in local shops around the coast that specialise in Calabrian Traditional products. Today, it still is possible to taste Verbicaro D.O.C. wine, in this town, in the "catoi", a sort of a very traditional seller.
