The little city of San Giovanni lies in Gargano. Its importance has increased considerably in recent years owing to the presence there of Father Pio da Pietralcina. People concerned with the things of the spirit flock to this oasis of peace and refreshment every year, from all parts of the world.
The central point of the Event spiritual and religious activity is the Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie, adjoining the Capuchin Convent, where Father Pio performs his mission as a priest.

The Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza, or House for the Relief of Suffering, is a notable monument of Christian charity; it takes the form of a large hospital complex with all the latest equipment, and was built by the wish and through the efforts of Father Pio himself.
It is surrounded by beautiful mountain and wood-land scenery road. Already in use and others being built lead to wonderful excursions and also shooting expeditions if desired.
t has a central position and is the jumping off ground for all the interesting itineraries of the Gargano: the San Michele Sanctuary, Foresta Umbra, Riviera Garganica, and the Tremiti Islands.
