Situated in a small sea town called "Scalea", Villa Brazzano lies among pine trees surrounded by olive
groves and palms. Scalea enjoys one of the most
beautiful parts of the Tyrrhenian Coast and it's dark volcanic sand, the clear Azure sea and it's natural sea caves
in the "Ajnella" area.
Scalea is one of the towns
that make the "Riviera dei Cedri", one of the few, if not
the only, area on earth where the "Cedro"
(lime) grows.
This
unusual fruit, that looks like a green enormous lemon is used to make a local popular liquor that takes
it's
same name.
Scalea was no doubt inhabited
even in prehistorical times, as the discoveries of the
Palaeolithic Period that were excavated in a cavern near the
"Talao Tower", show. This tower was built on the highest cliff
of a small island just in front of Scalea, for sentinels to guard the town from
invaders coming from sea.
"Scalea Vecchia"
(the "old town") placed on the heights still preserves
remains of ancient times such as the "Cimalonga Tower"
that is today an Antiquarium but at the time was a prison.
Legend has it that it's prisoners built a small tunnel ending on
the Torre Talao Island to escape, but once discovered was also
used as an escape tunnel to reach the island from land in case
of invasion.
Villa Brazzano
was built in the early 19th century as an oil mill, on 55
beautiful acres of Calabrese countryside and only few hundred
metres from the sea.
Driving through a 19th century portal you'll find yourself
in a land of nature...
...through the lane and at the end of the driveway stands
Villa Brazzano....
..among oleander and geraniums and surrounded by Pine,
Olive and Palm trees bringing up memories of it's past.
Part of the old oil mill
has been converted in a Restaurant so if you've never
tasted the real Calabrese food, now's your chance.
The chef suggests a
variety of dishes of the local cuisine, such as
pasta, fish, meat and pizzas...
... if you'd like to give
it a try just ask locally.
The village
has 30 villas all in a lush green setting and each with it's own patio...
Each villa is fitted with a kitchen,
fridge, bedrooms and a lounge or dining area. The Villas are spacious for
4 people but can add extra beds/bed settees to fit another 2.
Enjoy the
sport facilities in Villa Brazzano's area, the large swimming pool
and it's poolside lounger where you can doze off under a sun umbrella and
that is also area of entertainment, the hard-core tennis court, the
"calcetto" grass pit and the volley ball hard-core pit.
For the use of all these facilities there will
be a small hourly fee to pay
The Village's "Mini bus" service will be happy to take you to the town
centre in the late afternoons, to go shopping or hunting for
typical products and liquors, or even to take you to the beach.
